Club Assembly

Review of our RY2022-23 club budget and bylaws

Jun 20, 2022 11:58 AM

What is a Club Assembly?  Why is it important I attend?

A Club Assembly is as an important opportunity for club officers to share information with Club members, identify issues and discuss future plans. This first assembly of the upcoming RY2022-23 will provide an overview of plans for SGR's new year, review the club budget and take a long-overdue look at our club bylaws.

We need your input because your ideas are vital to SGR's future.  And, because we want you to be able to say "yes" to the question: "is it fun?" there will be prize drawings at the end of the meeting!!!

Order in the court ... someone is going to jail!

A gunfight, arrest, court trial and jail time in the Old Pioneer Courthouse

Jul 18, 2022 11:58 AM

It's almost Pioneer Day, so this State holiday (this year observed on Monday, July 25) gives us an opportunity to step back in time.  Thanks to July program chair Dan McArthur for arranging it, we will be visiting the Old Pioneer Courthouse and Jail ... but who is to be incarcerated there?  And for what reason?  Watch for flying frick and frack as you enter the building because there's going to be a rootin,' tootin' shootout ... and the bandits just might have familiar faces!

Former U. S. Congressman Bob Inglis (R-Mass.)

A conservative member of congress and a recent convert ... to climate change

Sep 12, 2022 11:58 AM

Former Republican member of the U.S. Congress Bob Inglis shares an optimistic message about how conservatives can lead on climate change and other pressing problems -- and how free enterprise (and working together across ideologies) holds the solutions. "The United States was not built by those who waited and wished to look behind them," Inglis says. "Lead now ... tell the American people we still have moon shots in us."

HWSG's Welcome Bags Assembly
Sep 28, 2022 8:58 AM - 4:00 PM
Can you believe it? On Wednesday, September 28 we will be assembling about 11,000 Welcome Bags for senior athletes coming to St. George for the 35th Annual Huntsman World Senior Games ... and, wow, do we need your help!  This service involves walking ad nauseum around long tables collecting printed materials and donated samples to put into swag bags.

Wear comfortable walking shoes.  Shifts are 9 am - noon or 1 - 4 pm on Wednesday (with lunch served at noon) ... and possibly again on Thursday at 9 a.m. if we don't finish in a day (but we have done so in the past 4-5 years).  Or come when you can and stay until you need to leave.

Sign up at our next meeting ... or email Linda Sappington for more information.

St. George Marathon
Oct 01, 2022 6:00 AM
On the morning of Saturday, October 1, thousands of runners from near and far will be participating in the St. George Marathon. SGR has accepted an assignment to man (and woman) Aid Station #18, located on the race route near the offramp to The Ledges.  We need to be there at 6 a.m. where we will be cheering the runners on, handing out water, coke, fruit … and managing any simple injuries (blisters, etc.).

Please bring sunscreen (if you use it), noisemakers (cow bells, horns, etc), neighbors, friends, and/ or family members to help because we need at least 30 volunteers for this “service above self!”  And, breakfast will be served for all volunteers.

Questions?  Please contact Reed.

Del Beatty, Dean of Students

The new spirit of Utah Tech University

Oct 17, 2022

Del Beatty, Dean of Students will share the energy, excitement and good happening at Utah Tech University and how happy students are to be studying here.

He readily admits, "the UT name change and rebranding process has been painful for many and I clearly understand both sides of this difficult issue."  However, this Rotarian-at-heart - a member of St. George Sunrise Rotary Club - enthusiastically notes, "it is fair to all concerned, is building goodwill and better friendships, and beneficial to our students and their futures."

For many, we'll always be "Dixie" but, fellow Rotarians ... this decision has been made and has been a done deal for more than 90 days now, so please be respectful to our speaker and his informative message.

Let's support our university - established in 1911 - and still going strong!!!
