There are 9000+ federal employees in southern Utah's 5-county region being impacted by the government shutdown. Many local organizations have stepped up to help in this time of crisis, including the Salvation Army.
Please join SGR on Monday, November 10 (a holiday for some of our members so a formal meeting is not being held) when we will gatherat 568 W. Telegraph (across from the Washington Walmart) for lunch and a "service above self" project. One of our own Rotarians and the SA's Major Bob Schmig will be ready for us at 11:30 a.m.
In addition to volunteering, you are encouraged to bring a donation of canned goods to help fill their pantry (peanut butter, chili, canned fruits or vegetables, canned meats)or donate cash. Major Bob can tell you how!
About 40 Rotarians and friends of Rotary gathered on a beautiful autumn Saturday, November 8 to honor 1225 veterans interred at the St. George Cemetery and another 1050 in their final resting place at Tonaquint Cemetery. SGR's semi-annual "service above self" Veterans Day project is a beautiful reminder of the price of freedom and a great opportunity to enjoy donuts, chocolate milk and glorious fall weather with friends!

Here's the simple math to make this equation make sense. The cost again this year for valuable savings for golf, restaurants, sporting events, theater and "other" is $40. Half of your purchase price goes to the publisher and the other half (in our case) goes to the Utah Food Bank.
But wait ... it will be matched on "Giving Tuesday, December 2, 2025" bringing the donation to the Utah Food Bank back to $40 for each book.
In this difficult time for 9000+ federal employees in southern Utah's 5-county area, each $40 donation will provide nearly $300 per book in food for hungry families ... so everyone comes out a winner!
Rotary Youth Exchange is the largest and least expensive program of it's kind in the world. Despite the time change and darkness by 5 p.m., there has been some sunshine this week because no children have been diagnosed with WPI. This "good news" means we're still at a worldwide total in 2025 at 39 cases ... 9 in Afghanistan and 30 in Pakistan.
Even so, we simply can't stop immunizing and contributing to the fight against the wild polio virus.
