Do you know why we are called ROTARY? Rotary clubs are so named because the founders initially rotated weekly meetings between each member's place of business, a practice which became symbolic of Rotary's spirit of fellowship and service.
Today, Rotary clubs don't regularly rotate, but when SGR gets bumped from the Abbey Inn, we sometimes have wonderful opportunities at alternate locations where we can meet and eat. For instance, on Monday, April 7 we gathered at the new offices of the Huntsman World Senior Games where we enjoyed an update from our own Kyle Case, CEO of The Games who has served in this position for 18 of this record-breaking event's 37 years.
It was a wonderful, well-attended meeting. Thanks to all who took part ... and, especially thanks to Rotarian Kyle Case for letting us to visit his new digs on short notice.
The Rotary "logo police" finally caught up with SGR (10 years after the new official logo was introduced on RI's Brand Center). Our membership (at least those in attendance on Monday, April 7) voted on two logos (both "official") which we can use in a variety of ways.
Thanks goes to Rotarian David Martinez who created our new look in compliance with RI guidelines!
On Monday, April 14, members of SGR will be judging the annual Science Fair from 9 - 11 a.m. at Legacy Elementary School. If you have not signed up but would like to help with this delightful "service above self" project, please call Reed at 435-668-6711.
Following the Science Fair on this same Monday, SGR will be back at the Abbey Inn for lunch and a program. Lots of fun Rotary wrapped into one day!
Speaking of Rotary FUNNN, the Hurricane Valley Rotary Easter car show will be held on Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Hurricane Community Center. This club's biggest fundraiser with more than 300 cars. If you love hot rods, roadsters or other beautiful vehicles, this is the place to be on Easter Saturday.
Still looking for FUNNN on Easter weekend, there's also the annual St. George Arts Festival on Town Square - and the Heritage Choir Easter Concert in the SG Tabernacle, both on Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19.
These are not all Rotary events, but some of our Rotarians have a part, so let's support them while we recreate on a beautiful spring day!
PS: The Rotary "logo police" should also be on the lookout for HVR's graphic designer. Can you identify two reasons why?
DG Todd Boyer's membership goal for District 5420
is "2025 in 2025." Who do you know
who should be in Rotary?
Rotary Question of the Week:
# of SGR members who have served as District Governors?
Another prize if you know all their names!
Don't plan the big party yet, but it has now been five weeks without a single new case of wild polio with paralysis in the world. It's still out there, but we're going in the right direction ... while we hold steady at 7 cases worldwide since New Years Day 2025 - 1 in Afghanistan and 6 in Pakistan.
If you aren't already giving to the PolioPlus Society - at an affordable $8.50 a month or $100 annually - see Foundation Chairs Bryan or Dale.
Enjoy your special day this week with "best wishes" from your friends at St. George Rotary!
