SGR BOARD MEMBERS: District Governor Todd Boyer will be our featured speaker on Monday, August 12 but prior to our regular lunch meeting, he wants to meet with board members. Please mark your calendar for this meeting, to convene at 11 a.m. at the Best Western Abbey Inn.

Oops!  It seems SG City thought the flagstone pathway should jut out from the west side of the "Forever Dixie" monument instead of the north side leading up to our beautiful new plaque. They have agreed to fix their "booboo" at no charge but it means plans are still pending for the official unveiling. Stay tuned!

The "first ever" Dixie Days during the week of September 8-14 will include a fireside kickoff on Sunday, Sept. 8; a parade, 2K/4K race, the 3-day Lions Dixie Roundup Rodeo (Sept. 12-14); movies at the Electric Theater, as well as a "movie-in-the-park" showing of "The Electric Horseman" starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda (filmed in St. George in 1979).

There will also be food trucks, a drone show, and a variety of attractions on Town Square, including a 2-table "what's Rotary" exhibit featuring the iron lung with information about RI's polio eradication project. There will also be a mini-Guatemala stove ... and a rotating Power Point presentation highlighting SGR's impact on the community and the world.

Chair Dale Desmond needs Rotarians willing to step up to help with a variety of projects in preparation for the event, as well as volunteers to help "man" (and woman) the booth. Sign up, please!

Questions?  Brother Dale has the answers.

Remember the fun members of SGR had together when we "retreated" to Phil and Rene Hall's place in Johnson Canyon?

We can have another "Best Day Ever" (this year's parade theme) of fun and friendship in a retreat to Pasadena, CA during the week after Christmas when we can volunteer to help decorate the 2025 RI float for the 136th Pasadena Rose Parade. It really is a memorable experience and an opportunity to see these beautiful floats up close and personal before the world sees some of them on their TV screens on New Years Day!

Volunteer signup opens on September 1.

It was a "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad" week in the fight to eradicate wild polio with paralysis when 5 new cases were diagnosed bringing the worldwide total in 2024 to 23 ... 11 in Afghanistan and 12 in Pakistan even as we move into "polio season."

Currently, just 53.3% of 1.4 million Rotarians and Rotaractors give to PolioPlus.
Imagine how much faster we could cross the polio eradication finish line if 73.3% ... or 93.3% joined the Polio Plus Society at a cost of just $8.50 a month or gave an annual donation of $100 until the wild polio virus is finally and forever eradicated.
