Last week might have been the craziest in Washington County's history with at least 5 major events going on simultaneously around the community. This phenomenon included a dozen of our members assembling welcome bags, in the 1st "event" of the 2-week long 39th annual Huntsman World Senior Games. Another 20 Rotarians from our club could be found at the PGA TOUR at Black Desert; and 35 Rotarians and friends of Rotary supported the 50th running of the St. George Marathon.

And then 14 of our members said YES to being "home hosts" to BYU students on the following Tuesday in support of The Games.

Aside from membership in SGR, these Rotarians and friends also have in common a volunteer t-shirt or uniform, representative of their "service above self" during the week of Sept. 30 - Oct. 9.

Since it is unlikely this circumstance will ever happen  again, will you please wash and wear your shirt or PGA uniform to our meeting on Monday, October 12 for a group photo to be taken by our guest speaker and "famed" Spectrum photographer Jud Burkett ... because we all know, "if there's no picture, it didn't really happen!"

See you at the Abbey!

On Friday, October 23 at the home of Lisa and Randy Shaw, we will celebrate SGR's "service above self" at October's three big events -  all held in the first same crazy two weeks of fall.

OR, if you are happy you survived summer in St. George, you might coome ready to celebrate the decline into fall of our triple digit temperatures.

OR if you are famous for a special fall dessert you'd like to bring to share, we might be celebrating your prowess in the kitchen.

OR maybe its your anniversary of joining St. George Rotary!  But whatever you are celebrating, please do it with your friends at SGR!!!

SG Rotarians ... bring your +1 and feel free to bring a prospective member with their +1 for an evening of beautiful weather, laughter, good food and maybe even a spooky surprise, or two.

But whatever you are celebrating, please do it with us!!!

Did you know ... Alan Alda (the rascally "Hawkeye Pierce" of *M*A*S*H fame) is a polio survivor?

As we approach another World Polio Day (Saturday, October 24) in an effort to totally and completely eradicate polio from the earth, it is important to know this dreaded disease is "no respecter of rank or position" in the world.

Please support this 38-year effort by donating $8.50 a month in support of RI's effort!  See Foundation Chair LaRene Cox or Club Treasurer Collin Davis to sign up.

President Kolby's membership goal for RY2026-27 is a net 78 (we are currently at 72) which means we need to work hard to find more new members.

The only way we can reach our  goal of six new members this year, is by inviting someone - a friend, neighbor, or co-worker - to check us out around the lunch table! So be sure to keep 15 or more invitation cards in your pocket and hand them oOut with gusto!

It all starts with an invitation to lunch ... so, who do you know who should be in Rotary?

In Utah Rotary District 5420's October district newsletter, District Governor Peter Cardon challenged Rotarians to do THIS as a way to strengthen our club!

Another "World Polio Day" is right around the corner (October 24) but polio still exists as exemplified by last week's statistics ... Pakistan is at 5 new cases of wild-polio with paralysis, but Afghanistan's count has reached 36 for a worldwide total of 41 in 2026 (compared to 31 last year in the same time period)!

Since we haven't yet crossed the finish line in this 38-year fight, will you please consider joining the PolioPlus Society at a nominal cost of just $8.50 per month - or a single annual donation of $100 - to save children around the world from this dreaded disease?

See Foundation Chair LaRene Cox or Collin Davis, our club treasurer for information on how to sign up because this fight isn't over 'til its over!
