It's been a few minutes since SGR's Social Committee (aka "Is It FUNNN?") has met so let's gather at 10:45 a.m. on Monday, September 29 at the Abbey Inn to consider how much more fun we can squeeze into the next couple of months. There is already a long list of fun ideas for your consideration, but please come prepared to add your suggestions!

In exchange for a $9000 donation to St. George Rotary Club, the PGA TOUR at Black Desert Resort needs 20 Rotarians or friends of Rotary to help on the weekend of October 22-26 as Gallery Management - Marshals. During this Wednesday through Saturday event Hole 11 will require 8 volunteers each shift on each day from 7 - 11 a.m.; 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. and 3 - 6:30 p.m.

Here is what is involvedGallery Management - Marshals help tournament security manage the flow of spectators to ensure continuity of play, gallery safety, and the safety of the PGA TOUR professionals. These important volunteers ensure players are not disturbed during play and enforce golf etiquette and security among the spectators. Volunteers are responsible for keeping spectators behind the ropes, and players and officials inside the ropes. Volunteers will be stationed at each tee, landing areas, putting greens and crossovers. Shift times will vary based on hole assignment. Volunteers will also assist the Spotters committee in locating errant golf shots.

Requirements are as follows:
*  Volunteers are asked to work a minimum of 3 shifts during the tournament's 5-day schedule (so training new volunteers every shift will not be required).
*  Must be able to stand for long periods of time, outside on the course regardless of weather conditions (you can bring a small chair for times when there is a break in course activity).
*  Must have knowledge of proper golf etiquette and cell phone usage, as well as the golf course and tournament operations.
*  Must be able to locate and protect errant golf shots.
All volunteers must complete online training provided.

For your volunteer service, each volunteer will receive:
*  Championship logoed t-shirt
*  Championship logoed jacket
*  Championship logoed headgear
*  Clear logoed 14x17" string backpack
*  Volunteer credential includes general admission access Thursday through Saturday
*  Commemorative pin and souvenir lanyard
*  Meals, snacks and beverages provided during working shifts
*  Volunteer parking and transportation in LOT 7

Www.bankofutahchampionship.com/volunteer is where you register. When it asks for the name of friends with whom you want to volunteer ... enter ROTARY25 and the $85 fee will be waived, too.

The HWSG's Welcome bags assembly project is scheduled for next Wednesday, October 1. Lunch will be served to all volunteers at noon.  You will not be interacting with the athletes so dress however you are most comfortable, but please wear your most supportive walking shoes.  Park behind the Hilton Garden Inn and enter the Dixie Convention Center through the north doors.  Questions?  See Linda.

Utah Rotary's District Governor Suzanne Wilhelm's goal for D5420 is a net increase of 200 new members by June 30, 2026 (that's just 4-ish in each of Utah's 45 clubs).  So, who do you know who should be a member of St. George Rotary Club?

Rotary Question of the Week

In 1921, soon after the "Great War" (aka WWI), RI added this cause to their list of what they're willing to fight for!
(HINT: "Miss Congeniality")

We knew the brief break in new cases of WPV1 with paralysis couldn't last!!! This week two more Pakistani children were diagnosed bringing our worldwide total in 2025 to 30 ... 4 in Afghanistan and 26 in Pakistan.

While Rotarians know we're going in the right direction, we also know it's still out there.
