If you show up at the Best Western Abbey Inn on Monday, September 30 you won't find us there because we'll be at the Sunbrook Golf Course for the 11th annual St. George Rotary Charity Golf Tournament.
And on Monday, October 7 we won't be there either because we'll be parking cars at the Black Desert Golf Resort for the players, caddies, VIP's and others but we'd LOVE to have you join us because we need you and there is money to be made for our club for every volunteer we recruit!
A mulligan is defined as a second chance to perform better usually after the first chance went wrong through bad luck or a blunder.
For the St. George Rotary Charitable Golf Tournament, a mulligan can be purchased for $5 each or at the bargain price of 5 for $20 OR by bringing a bag of canned or boxed food for the Utah Food Bank to Sunbrook Golf Course on Monday, September 30.
“It was enough just to be nominated,” lied one of those who didn’t win! Here are the results of voting in the five categories for which SGR was nominated as announced at District Conference 2024 in Cedar City this weekend:
The winning team for the Rotary Jeopardy Tournament of Champions was St. George Sunrise with a cash incentive of $1000 but the 2nd prize of $500 went to 3 members of the Brigham City club with Linda Sappington as the 4th. No money for SGR.
Jim Coleman was nominated for PDG of the Year - but Penny Atkinson, 1st Female DG took home the $300 incentive award.
SGR's Guatemala Stoves Project was recognized as Best Service Project of the Year but the $1000 incentive award went to the 2nd place winner Centerville-Farmington Club.
SGR was nominated, but the Provo club was recognized for RY2024-25 Fast Start Club and took home the $1000 incentive award
Unfortunately – although we “won” in a few instances, we didn’t get the $$$ because only four of SGR's 63 members attended the conference.
Welcome to Rotary, Naomi Traveller. SGR's newest member - bringing our new membership total to 63 (with at least 3 more scheduled to be inducted in the next several weeks) - is sponsored by her husband Kolby and was inducted on Monday, September 23.
Born and raised in Hawaii, Naomi also spent 2 years in Tacloban, The Philippines after which she met and married Kolby in 2011. In 2024, they now have two daughters, ages 6 and nearly 2.
Now Kolby is retired they are both excited to put some energy into "service above self" as members of St. George Rotary!
Five non-profit organizations have jumped in to help SGR find 300+ volunteers for the upcoming FedEx Cup / PGA event at the spectacular new Black Desert Resort during the week of October 7 - 13. They are - including SGR - Washington City Rotary, St. George Sunrise, Hurricane Valley Rotary, Root for Kids and the St. George Children's Museum.
Thanks to Rocky Vista University students - we now have 189 volunteers ready and willing to flag cars into their parking spaces next week but we are still only to 45% of our goal.
There will be NO MEETINGon Monday, October 7 because we expect our members will be parking cars at Black Desert to bring home a 5-figure paycheck. If you haven't already signed up for one or more of three 4-hour shifts per day, please do so as soon as possible.
There is no way to put a positive spin on this week's report of four new cases of wild polio with paralysis diagnosed in Pakistan. This brings the worldwide total to 40 so far in 2024.
This wicked and crippling - even sometimes fatal - virus MUST BE ERADICATED! It is believed if we end this campaign, there will be an estimated 200,000 cases within a decade.
But currently, only 53.3% of the world's 1.4 million Rotarians are giving to the eradication of polio.
Please won't you join the Polio Plus Society by committing just $8.50 a month or $100 a year until the wild polio virus is finally and forever eradicated? It can't happen unless we all jump into the fight!!!
