It's another holiday on Monday, February 15 which means we won't be meeting while we celebrate Presidents' Day ... and the 35th annual St. George Area Parade of Homes. Enjoy this 3-day weekend with family and friends.
On Monday, February 23, SGR will be meeting at the new St. George City Hall for a face-to-face meet up with our new mayor, but while you're there, look for our newly "planted" peace rock put in place on Thursday, February 12 ... which, coincidentally was Abraham Lincoln's birthday. Don't get the connection? You will when you see this beautiful monument reflecting RI's area of focus on peace and conflict prevention.
Our 2nd delivery of sweet, delicious California navel oranges will be delivered on Friday, February 20. If you missed out on the 1st delivery, here's another chance to take this delicious fruit home office. Text, call or email Linda to order.
On Thursday, February 12, a handful of Rotarians gave "service above self" as judges at the Legacy Elementary School science fair. These amazing K-5th grade students had interesting and well-prepared displays to share with Randy Gordon, Reed Noble, Joann Coleman, Ken and Barbara Sizemore, Randy Shaw, Dave Prisbrey and Linda Sappington including their knowledge about everything from the tastiest root beer for a float; how to create a robotic arm; the likelihood a skyscraper will remain standing after an earthquake, and how to turn a raw egg into a bouncy ball! This is another outstanding annual project and these kids WOWED us with their knowledge!
In the last year, SGR's leaders have seen a steady increase in new members as well as the percentage of regular attenders among our membership. While it might be hard to pinpoint the exact reason why this is happening, we hope - at least in part - it is because we work hard to plan programs, projects and opportunities to socialize, all which offer relevant, inspiring, thought provoking or just down right fun content to encourage participation, attract new members, reflect Rotary's mission and provide variety.
In a few of our most recent programs we've found examples of the adage "if you build it, they will come!" We had 52 at our 95th birthday party and this week we had 35 (49% of our current 72 members). The best part about last Monday's program was watching our members jump to their feet to watch the antics of Scout, a chocolate Labrador and Utah's only certified cadaver dog and his furry fellow sheriff's deputy Hotch, trained to apprehend bad guys (and gals). Once he has his prey in his teeth, this highly trained German shepherd will hold on tight until the suspect has been brought to their knees ... and according to their trainers, these 4-legged deputies think this is all just "fun and games!"
In short, there's lots going on in St. George Rotary. Please consider who you know and invite them to join us in getting things done, enjoying each others company and having lots of fun in the process.
Utah Rotary's DG Suzanne goal for D5420 is a net increase of 200 new members by June 30, 2026.
So, who do you know who should be a member of
St. George Rotary Club?
President-elect Kolby Traveller will attend this multi-district training with a new name held at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott on February 20-22 to prepare him for service as SGR's president in RY2026-27!
It's the news we've been waiting for! So far in 2026, NO children have been diagnosed with wild polio with paralysis anywhere in the world. And, a huge polio immunization campaign was recently completed in Pakistan which involved mind-boggling numbers!!!
In 2026, please resolve to join the PolioPlus Society at a cost of just $8.50 PER MONTH - or an annual donation of $100 to save children around the world from this dreaded disease.
FMI, contact Foundation Chair Dave Prisbrey or Club Treasurer Collin Davis to make your wishes known!
