Yep, its that time again! On Monday, May 6 our monthly board meeting(s) will be held, instead of at the BW Abbey Inn (NO LUNCH MEETING) we will meet at noonat ERA Brokers Consolidated (201 E. St. George Blvd.). Don't be late. As usual, we have LOTS to discuss. Lunch will be provided.
On Monday, May 6, there will be NO LUNCHEON MEETING at the Best Western Abbey Inn. Instead we will gather at 6 p.m. at Tonaquint Park (home of Thunder Junction) for our annual Latin Appreciation Party in the Park.
Bring your favorite sombrero and your family for food trucks, music, games, socializing and other kinds of FUNNN!!! Come one, come all.
Toby O'Brien, PE Dave Prisbrey, Reed Noble and Ed Sappington were part of the crew which gathered 1800 bags of morning clothing, consolidated everything into 4x4' bags and moved everything to a collection place at the end of the event. Join us next year for the FUNNN and the donuts!

Another 5th Monday service project for SGR - this time at the Utah Food Bank on Monday, April 29 where we sorted 1,000 lbs of donated canned and packaged food for some of those 29,000 southern Utahns who don't know where they're going to find their next meal. Thanks to Paul Tikalsky for wrangling this unruly bunch into a hardworking group of Rotarians ... and to Ken and Barbara Sizemore for making sure we got lunch.

At the Utah District Assembly on Saturday, April 27, DGE Todd Boyer spoke of his early days as a member of Cedar City Rotary, “I enjoyed being in Rotary but I wasn’t yet a Rotarian. After several years, I had my ‘ah, hah’ moment in Guatemala with members of St. George Rotary to build stoves. It was in a Mayan village in Guatemala where I ‘became’ a Rotarian.”
He went on, “last summer, I attended St. George Rotary’s 1st ever car show at Tuacahn. The club had arranged to have D5420’s iron lung on display, including the colorful Rotary-branded trailer. People stopped at the iron lung and the trailer asking the two questions we’ve all heard many times … ‘What’s Rotary?’ and "what's polio?" but many also shared their own polio stories. It was a glorious day in Tuacahn canyon and another success for St. George Rotary which also made me proud to be a Rotarian!”
Thanks for all you do, SG Rotarians. In our 93 years, we have yet to be named “Club of the Year” but we can certainly be proud of our long history of making a difference in our community, our state and the world!!!
At the end of the first four months of 2024, there have still been only 4 cases of wild polio with paralysis in the entire world - 2 in Afghanistan and 2 in Pakistan (and technically all four cases occurred in 2023).
But this terrible disease is not eradicated as we head into the summer months, so we can't let down our guard.
