It's almost Pioneer Day. Thanks to July program chair Dan McArthur for arranging our visit to the Old Pioneer Courthouse (corner of 100 East and St. George Blvd.) on Monday, July 18 where we will take part in a rootin,' tootin' shootout, an arrest by the sheriff, a jury trial, and time in the hoosgow for our outlaw. It will be fun and a half ... with box lunches.

Toby in NYC with a broken neck
Toby O'Brien thinks the universe is conspiring against her. She is currently in NYC visiting friends and family and seeing some Broadway shows, but while in the Big Apple she took a serious fall and sustained a broken neck (C1). On Tuesday, she will have surgery to fuse her neck followed by a lengthy recuperation and an interruption of her plans for the remainder of the summer.
Sending healing energy, comfort and prayers. She can use good vibes ... again!
Save your grocery bags for "service above self" project in March!
It may seem like a very long time to save grocery bags, but SGR will be doing a fun - but very important - "service above self" project in March and we need 300 Walmart-style bags for each sleeping mat we make for homeless / refugees in our community.

"Mary Poppins" - the world's most famous nanny and currently starring in one of three Broadway shows at Tuacahn - told the two children in her care, "in every job that must be done there is an element of fun!" SGR knows this concept as well because after the recitation of Rotary's 4-way test, our members add, "... and is it fun?"
There's lots being planned in the way of FUN this year so please don't miss our meeting on Monday, August 8 where you'll hear what the "Is It Fun?" Team has up their collective sleeves - including an exciting and ultimate FUN "service above self" project on each World Polio Day (October 24) until polio is finally and forever eradicated from the earth.

The Southern Assembly on Saturday, August 6 will include committee members from the 7 southern Utah clubs - St. George, St. George Sunrise, Hurricane Valley, SoUT Veterans, Washington City, Cedar City and Richfield Rotary clubs. Following a light breakfast at 8:30 a panel discussion will feature "what's new" in Foundation, Membership, Public Image, Rotaract ... and more. There will also be breakout sessions on a variety of important topics, lunch and in the evening, a social evening including dinner with district leaders and your +1. Mark your calendar and take advantage of this training opportunity right in your own back yard!
