It's the first Monday of the month, so board members are reminded we will gather on Monday, July 6 at the Abbey Inn at 10:45 a.m. for our first board meeting of the new year. And, board members, please also be reminded YOU are our lunch meeting program! Each of you will have 3-5 minutes to share your goals and project plans for RY2026-27.
On Monday, June 29, SGR's board (who will be our speakers on Monday, July 6 sharing their goals and ideas for their RY2026-27 year) was inducted in support of our newly serving President Kolby Traveller who has already accomplished his first goal to "create lasting impact" in the form of a new strategic plan to guide club efforts for the next three years.
And, while IP President LaRene admits to being apprehensive about her year as Club Foundation Chair, she is committed to learning all there is to know about both TRF and SGR's Foundation.

There was no question who President LaRene would name as RY2025-26 "Rotarians of the Year" for their willingness to assume leadership for SGR's 21st Guatemala stoves (and latrine) project. Dave Prisbrey and Chris Parker are born leaders and did not flinch when asked to co-chair this important international project! Certificates were awarded over two signatures - President LaRene and Dr. Dan Strobell, who remarked "I am honored to support these two for this recognition!"
Mark your calendar for May 29 - June 6 when up to 25 Rotarians and friends of Rotary will once again travel to Guatemala to build stoves in Mayan villages.
In RY2026-27, SGR is introducing a "Photo of the Year" award. The winning image must reflect "service above self" and tell a story (this year's winning photo might be titled "Service is a family affair!" ... but what do you see?) This photo will be used as may be appropriate to promote our public image in brochures, fliers, and other promotional materials.
Kolby and Naomi laughed when they saw their photo in district and zone 27 communications - taken on April 25 in Pine Valley while planting 250 trees to replace some of those lost in last summer's Forsyth fire - saying they had promised Naomi's mother this shot wasn't going to be seen by anyone but family!
The 1st ever "Achievement / Accomplishment or Most Impactful Service Project of the Year" award recognizes the efforts of the SGR Foundation Committee in encouraging club members to "create lasting impact" by supporting the development of an "Endowment SHARE Rotary Club of St. George, UT Named Fund" which will provide funding for our service projects in perpetuity.
Thanks to everyone who thought this could not possibly happen but supported it anyway ... particularly club donors Ray Absher, Jim Coleman and Rick Schofield. But another 15 members also wrote generous checks bringing our total to more than $37,000.
When Richard L. Evans passed in 1971, his family gifted THIS to Utah Rotary. Since then it has been a tradition to pass it down from one Utah Rotary District Governor to the next but once it happens, this memento goes into his/her safety deposit box for safekeeping!
RY2025-26 ended with no new cases of wild polio-caused paralysis bringing this year's worldwide case total to 9.
Unfortunately, while this is good news, we have not yet crossed the finish line in this battle.
