From President LaRene Cox, “One of the presentations which particularly touched my heart was the Japanese delegation who spoke on the efforts in polio eradication. RI hires workers for $150 a month to go into difficult places without military security to give babies the vaccination.  They are at train stations, expressways and refuge camps.

She also noted tennis champion Roger Crawford (rogercrawford.com) was an excellent motivational speaker. He was born with several physical handicaps – only two fingers on one hand and one on the other.  He was also missing his left leg and some toes on his right foot.  But these missing appendages didn’t prevent him from excelling as an athlete.

He said, “skillset is what we can do. Mindset is what we believe we can do.  It is also the single predictor of success.”  Direction asks, “how can we do more?”  Goals are a plan determining how we will do something.  Our purpose is our emotional commitment to something.  Our power of clarity determines where we are coming from and where we are going.  And, consistency is more important than perfection.  It’s doing something over and over again and never quitting.”

PDG Jim Coleman calls this District Conference “one of the best.  The foreign guests were enlightening including those who provided insight into the behind the scenes of polio eradication.  We were also very privileged to be in the company of RIPN Larry Lunsford … and it was great to see many friends who are part of Rotary District 5420. A highlight was having the number of our club members in attendance.”

Linda Baker noted, “In everyday Rotary we focus on our club and district (as we should) but RI can be very complex and difficult to understand.”

Dale Desmond was impressed to learn “The Rotary Foundation has raised more than $2 billion in its history.”

A total of fifteen SG Rotarians attended part or all of this year's District 5420 Conference on the weekend of September 18-20.  In addition to those mentioned above, the others were: Daniel Adams, Joann Coleman, James Jackson, Jenny Lee, Reed Noble, Steve Radmall,
Rob Sittman, Eunice Sittman, Bryan Thiriot, Kolby Traveller and Naomi Traveller.

Thanks to all who sacrificed a weekend to attend District Conference in an effort to learn more about Rotary.

SGR had an historic number of attendees - 15 members but not all in the same place at any one time - at the 2025-26 District Conference on the weekend of September 18-20.

DG Suzanne Wilhelm's official visit to SGR on Monday, September 15, included a brief meeting with the President LaRene Cox and President-elect Kolby Traveller, the board of trusteess to discuss SGR's goals and her vision for District 5420. During our club meeting, she noted:
"I wear my Rotary badge as a reminder of what it is to be seen & cared for"

Our DG encouraged SGR to "Pink Loud" as Utah Rotarians

... and reviewed SGR's successful
"service above self" projects as part of her presentation

Utah Rotary's District Governor Suzanne Wilhelm's goal for D5420 is a net increase of 200 members by June 30, 2026 (that's just 4-ish in each of Utah's 45 clubs).  So, who do you know who should be a member of St. George Rotary Club?

Rotary Question of the Week

In it's first decade, Rotary formalized four guiding principles which evolved into what is now known by this name.

Thankfully, again this week no children were diagnosed with WPV with paralysis so we remain at a worldwide total of cases to 28 ... 4 in Afghanistan and 24 in Pakistan.

While Rotarians know we're going in the right direction, we also know it's still out there.

If you aren't already giving to the PolioPlus Society - at an affordable $8.50 a month or $100 annually until polio is eradicated finally and forever -please see Foundation Chairs Dave, Bryan or Dale to sign up or for more information.
