The St. George Children's Museum, once again, needs new or gently loved children's books for their Lending Library (please noter, they have more than enough chapter books).
Since this is one of SGR's 3 "service above self" projects, and if you are able to do so, please purchase one or more books for newborn to 6th graders and beyond ... or sort through and donate books your children have already enjoyed but may have outgrown.
According to the WashCo School District:
* 74% of 3rd graders who read poorly will still struggle in 9th grade
* 3rd grade reading scores can predict a student's likelihood of graduating from high school
* today's 3rd graders reading below grade level are likely to become our nation's lowest paid and least skilled citizens
* 85% of juveniles who interface with the juvenile court system are functionally illiterate
* on average, every high school dropout costs U. S. taxpayers an estimated $292,000 over a lifetime and,
* 3 out of 5 inmates in U. S. prisons can't read!
Your support is important to help make sure children in our community can read!
