A MEETING of the "Is It FUNNN?" Committee is hereby called for Monday, May 19 at 10:45 a.m. at the Best Western Abbey Inn for the purpose of PREPARING TO PARTY a few more times in the last six weeks of RY2024-25 ... because we just can't have too much FUNNN in Rotary!!!

Eighteen members and friends of SG Rotary will depart for Guatemala on Friday, May 23. Dan Strobell is pleased with the support he has received - including a recent delivery of 250 knit caps from people in the community - and looks forward to another great trip with his Rotary friends.

Safe travels, members and friends of SGR.

Upon their return, Dan and other members of his team of travelers will report their trip on Monday, June 16.  Watch for information and bring your friends, neighbors and co-workers for what is certain to be a fun program about District 5420's "2024 International Service Project of the Year."

The roots of Memorial Day's recognition of veterans dates back to the aftermath of the Civil War, a conflict which claimed more lives than any other in American history and resulted in the creation of the country's first national cemeteries. The earliest known observance of what we know as Memorial Day was in the 1860's - a time of immense grief and national healing.

Through the years, as the nation faced new conflicts, Memorial Day evolved to honor American military personnel who died in any war, not just the Civil War.  WWI and II, Korea,  Vietnam and other wars - declared or otherwise - saw Memorial Day become a day of broader national mourning and reflection.

On Saturday, May 24 at 9 a.m. members and families of SGR will gather at Tonaquint (including the Cremation Garden) and St. George cemeteries to post the colors of our nation in honor of more than 2200+ men and women who served or perished in any of America's wars.

Flags will be retrieved on Saturday, May 31 at 9 a.m.

Questions?  Contact Tom McArthur who will oversee this significant "service above self" project at St. George Cemetery or James Jackson who will lead this same effort at Tonaquint Cemetery.

Linda and Ed Sappington as well as Rulon Olson were recognized at the recent District 5420 Gala with a Paul Harris Award, "purchased" using District 5420's cache of Foundation Recognition Points.

Foundation Recognition Points (often referred to simply as points) are awarded to donors who contribute to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) through the Annual Fund / SHARE or PolioPlus or who sponsor a Foundation grant. Donors receive one recognition point for every US dollar contributed, so every donor to TRF is accumulating points.

SGR's club foundation chair, secretary or president, district annual fund chair or district foundation chair can view the online Club Recognition Summary and find your point total. Or you can go directly to your personal contribution history, recognition amount and available Foundation recognition points in your own My Rotary account and use your points to honor a family member, employer or community leader!

DG Todd Boyer's membership goal for District 5420
is "2025 in 2025." Who do you know
who should be in Rotary?

Rotary Question of the Week:

# of women Governors in District 5420’s 100+ year history (can you name the 3 from
St. George)?

It's now been two weeks with no new cases of wild polio with paralysis anywhere in the world so we are holding steady at 10 since New Years Day 2025. We're going in the right direction, but it's still out there with 2 cases in Afghanistan and 8 in Pakistan.

If you aren't already giving to the PolioPlus Society - at an affordable $8.50 a month or $100 annually until polio is eradicated finally and forever - see Foundation Chairs Bryan or Dale for more information.
