SGR for the win!!!  The Centerville-Farmington club was a worthy opponent against SGR during an online game of “Rotary Jeopardy” played in the evening of Monday, September 16.  Rotarians President Dave Prisbrey, Ken Sizemore and Linda Sappington scored 2600 points against CFR’s 2200 by responding with the game’s famous “what is …”  answers in three categories:  RI Convention Cities, Rotary Facts and Figures, Rotaract by the Numbers … and, of course the Daily Double!

SGR now moves to the Final Round to be played on Friday, September 27 during the first day of Utah Rotary District Conference in Cedar City. The winning team – of four – will take home a check in the amount of $1000 – 2nd place will receive $500 -  to do “more good” in the community and the world.

If you haven’t already registered for District Conference on the weekend of September 27-28 at an affordable $99 per person (which includes meals and a performance of the hilarious comedy “39 Steps” at the Utah Shakespeare Festival), please do so TODAY at UtahRotary.org. Registration is limited to 225.

PS: It is hinted SGR is going to get some kind of recognition from among the District's 44 clubs.

A mulligan is defined as a second chance to perform better usually after the first chance went wrong through bad luck or a blunder.

For the St. George Rotary Charitable Golf Tournament, a mulligan can be purchased for $5 each or at the bargain price of 5 for $20 OR by bringing a bag of canned or boxed food for the Utah Food Bank to Sunbrook Golf Course on Monday, September 30.

Seven non-profit organizations have jumped in to help SGR find 300+ volunteers needed to park cars for the upcoming FedEx Cup / PGA event at the spectacular new Black Desert Resort during the week of October 7 - 13.  They are - including SGR - Washington City Rotary, St. George Sunrise, Mesquite Rotary, Hurricane Valley Rotary, Utah Food Bank and the St. George Children's Museum.

At the moment we have a commitment from 93 volunteers - which is only 22% of the 414 needed.

There will be NO MEETING on Monday, October 7 because we expect our members will be parking cars at Black Desert to bring home a 5-figure paycheck. If you haven't already signed up for one or more of three 4-hour shifts per day, please do so as soon as possible.

If you haven't already signed up for District Conference, the first of its kind in two years, it may be everlastingly too late.  If you still plan to attend, go to utahrotary.org and sign up TODAY!

From the kinda-good-news-about-polio department: Amazingly both sides appear to have honored the 12-day “humanitarian pause” to allow polio vaccine to be given to 650,000+ children under age 10 in Gaza!

From the not-so-good-news-about-polio department: There was one more new case of wild poliovirus caused paralysis confirmed—in Afghanistan and the Taliban is no longer allowing house-to-house polio vaccination.

The worldwide total for the wild polio virus with paralysis in 2024 is now at 36 with another case diagnosed in Afghanistan.

This wicked and crippling - even sometimes fatal - virus MUST BE ERADICATED!  It is believed if we end this campaign, there will be an estimated 200,000 cases within a decade.

But currently, only 53.3% of the world's 1.4 million Rotarians are giving to the eradication of polio.

Please won't you join the Polio Plus Society by committing just $8.50 a month or $100 a year until the wild polio virus is finally and forever eradicated?  It can't happen unless we all jump into the fight!!!
