We thought we were going to be at the Utah Food Bank on Monday, July 17, but due to short staffing the plans have changed. So, we will meet as usual at the BW Abbey Inn where our speaker will be Terri Draper and members of the St. George Quality of Life Commission. These community leaders will share information about the accomplishments and status of the 25-year St. George Geo Bond.

The geo bond will be up for renewal to St. George voters in the November general election. You won't want to miss this meeting to learn what you need to know to make an informed decision on the ballot box!

First service project under our belts
An unexpected service project was completed in Johnson Canyon on the weekend of July 7-8 when 5 Rotarians and friends gave a couple of hours each to paint Phil's privvy a pretty shade of green!

In true Rotary spirit, it seems every gathering must include some "service above self."

Thanks, Phil and Rene for hosting us at your beautiful retreat.  Can we do it again next year?
President Bryan shares goals for RY2023-24
On Monday, July 10, SGR kicked off the new year with SGR’s board members sharing their goals and plans for RY2023-24.

President Bryan expressed his hope by the end of his year, the Abbey Inn will need to open another section of the meeting room to accommodate the increase in membership.  He also noted, since we are THE St. George Rotary Club, one week per month will be set aside to hear from city officials about programs which enhance our community.

The first “city-focused” program will be Terri Draper on Monday, July 17 who will speak on the subject of the upcoming proposed renewal of the 25-year-old geo bond.  On August 21, SGR will do a meet-and-greet with many of the 18 SG city council candidates at 7 p.m.
Work on the restoration of the firepit in the NE corner of Vernon Worthen Park is proceeding nicely (if you look closely you will see the firebox is nearly completed).

A beautiful new updated plaque is ready for placement below the 1948 plaque on the front of the firepit but the re-dedication has been rescheduled to Monday, August 21.  Watch for more information.

SGR's 9th Annual Golf Tournament
The date has been set (Thursday, September 21).  The location has been reserved (Sunbrook Golf Course).  A chairman is in place (Chris Parker) ... and this year's goal is $15,000!

To reach this lofty goal the committee, including Dave Watson, Paul Tikalsky, Ed Sappington and Rob Nodine, needs your help to find teams (as many to 25), hole sponsors (up to 18), giveaway items and anything else needed to make this the very best golf tournament in SGR history.

See a committee member for more information or to contribute.
The total cases of wild polio since NYD 2023 - anywhere in the world - is still holding steady at 6 (1 in Afghanistan and 5 in Pakistan) but don't be fooled into believing this terrible disease has been eradicated because it is still very much a threat to the children of the world.

PLEASE help us achieve RI's goal of ZERO by joining the Polio Plus Society at just $8.50 per month until polio is - finally and forever - eradicated from the earth, 'cause this fight isn't over til its over!
