St. George Rotary Foundation now has almost$5000 in new funding for local and international service projects through the sale of 234 cases of sweet, delicious California oranges. Thanks to those supportive club members who purchased 1, 2, 3 or more cases, but an extra special thanks goes to Terance White (30 cases), Kurt Johnson (21 cases), and Jim Coleman (14 cases).
Thanks also to Charles Dahlquist (SLC Rotary) and Ed Sappington (SGR's newest member) for volunteering 3-5 hours each to help buyers load their oranges.
Another thanks goes to David Sappington, Chief Operating Officer at Wild Coyote Foods who – with only 24-hours notice - gave SGR “carte blanche” for the use of the company parking lot, cold storage unit and fork lift to move things around so picking up oranges was easier for our buyers!
PS: SGR’s sponsored scout troops also sold a total (to date) of 40 cases on their own earning enough to cover much of the cost of some of their upcoming summer activities.
Another shipment of oranges arrives on Monday morning
We will take delivery on another 21 cases of oranges on Monday and we need 2-3 Rotarians to help load them into our buyers' cars. YOUR HELP IS GREATLY NEEDED!!!
Volunteers are needed from 8-11 (8-9:30 or 9:30-11 a.m.) Buyers have been reminded numerous times.
Utah Rotary District Governor Jose Velasco is planning "a party to remember" on the weekend of May 4-6, 2023 when we will "Celebrate Imagination" at District Conference.
At the beautiful new Midvalley Performing Arts Center in Taylorsville, there will be outstanding speakers, informative breakout sessions on a wide range of topics, socializing with new or longtime Rotarians you know and a few surprise guests!
The party starts on Thursday, May 4 at 2 p.m. with in-person registration followed by the annual District Business Meeting at 3 p.m.
The agenda on Friday, May 5 is filled with exciting activities, ending with a gala dinner.
Saturday, May 6 will wrap up at noon after a morning of celebration and recognition.

Going to Guatemala? Here's some of what you need to know!
According to Dan Strobell, SGR and friends are going back to the "stunningly beautiful and stunningly poor" Guatemala to build more cinderblock stoves in Mayan villages.
Here are some things you'll want to know as you prepare for this amazing international "service above self" in Guatemala:
* travel dates are May 27 - June 4 out of McCarren in Las Vegas
* estimated cost per person is $1800-2000, including airfare, hotel accommodations and transportation to and from the village of El Jordan
* up to 30-35 participants are invited
* there will also be a pop-up medical clinic and if dental professionals can be found, a pop-up dental clinic
* if you are unable to travel with us, you are invited to donate for the purchase of beans, rice and vitamins
* 3000+ stoves have been built to date
* current cost of one cinderblock stove is $170
* after three days of humanitarian service, we will spend Thursday - Saturday as tourists before heading home
