"A day which shall live in infamy" and the beginning of World War II

85 years ago today, on December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service launched a surprise military strike against the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The attack destroyed or damaged numerous American ships and aircraft, and killed more than 2,400 civilians and military personnel. President Theodore Roosevelt called the sudden, unprovoked nature of the strike "a day which will live in infamy" while both nations were still engaged in diplomatic talks—and to frame it as a shameful act of betrayal.

Our speaker Jim Shumate and a volunteer from the local Family Search, will share information about this event which brought the United States into World War II.
